Skillaz Football Club (“Skillaz FC,” “the Club,” “we,” “us” or “our”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting the personal data of players, members, customers and visitors to skillazfc.com (the “Site”). This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the rights you have over it.
This Policy is intended to comply with the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 (“NDPA”) and applicable regulations issued by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (“NDPC”). It should be read together with our Terms and Conditions.
1. Who This Policy Covers
This Policy applies to:
- Prospective and registered players/members, who provide information to register for football participation, membership and Club competitions; and
- Store customers and Site visitors, who browse or purchase Skillaz FC jerseys and merchandise, with or without creating a customer account.
You may interact with the Site in one or both capacities.
2. Information We Collect
We may collect the following categories of personal data, depending on how you use the Site:
a. Registration and membership data (players/members)
- Full name, date of birth, gender, phone number, email address, residential address
- Emergency contact details
- Playing position, jersey number preference, player statistics and match records
- Membership status, Membership Card details, and disciplinary or attendance records held for Club administration
- Health or medical information you voluntarily disclose relevant to safe participation (e.g., existing injuries or conditions), where provided
b. Account data (players and/or customers)
- Username, password (stored in encrypted/hashed form), account preferences
- Login and activity history on the Site
c. E-commerce and transaction data (customers)
- Billing and delivery address
- Order history, product preferences, and purchase amounts
- Payment confirmation data (we do not store full card numbers — payments are processed by our third-party payment processor(s), who handle card details in accordance with their own security and privacy standards)
d. Communications
- Messages, enquiries, complaints or feedback you send us, including through the Site, email, WhatsApp community platforms, or social media
e. Media
- Photographs, videos and audio recordings created during Club activities (matches, training, events, promotional shoots), as further described in Section 7 of our Terms and Conditions
f. Technical and usage data
- IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited, and similar data collected automatically via cookies and analytics tools (see Section 8 below)
3. How We Use Your Information
We use personal data for purposes including:
- processing and administering player registration and membership;
- organising football sessions, competitions, team allocation and match records;
- processing store orders, payments, delivery and returns;
- creating and managing your Site account;
- communicating with you about your registration, membership, orders, Club activities, or disciplinary matters;
- maintaining disciplinary and compliance records in accordance with the Club Constitution;
- Club media, marketing, publicity and promotional activities (see Section 7);
- responding to enquiries, complaints and support requests;
- improving the Site, our products and our services;
- detecting, preventing and addressing fraud, security incidents or breaches of our Terms; and
- complying with applicable legal, regulatory, tax or accounting obligations.
4. Legal Basis for Processing
Under the NDPA, we rely on one or more of the following legal bases to process your personal data:
- Consent — for example, where you register as a player, create an account, or agree to appear in specific promotional media;
- Performance of a contract — to fulfil membership registration, participation arrangements, or a merchandise order;
- Legitimate interests — for example, maintaining Club discipline and safety records, preventing fraud, and ordinary Club media/publicity, balanced against your rights and interests;
- Legal obligation — where we are required to retain or disclose information under Nigerian law.
Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
5. Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal data. We may share personal data with:
- Payment processors and payment gateways, to process orders securely;
- Delivery/courier partners, to fulfil merchandise orders;
- Club officials and appointed personnel (e.g., Executive Committee members, coaches, referees, the Compliance and Ethics Coordinator), strictly for football administration, competition organisation, member welfare and disciplinary purposes, on a need-to-know basis;
- IT, hosting and website service providers, who process data on our behalf under appropriate confidentiality and security arrangements;
- Sponsors and commercial partners, only in aggregated or non-identifying form unless you have separately and expressly consented to personal promotional involvement (see Section 7 of the Terms and Conditions on modelling/promotional activities); and
- Regulators, law enforcement or courts, where required by law or to protect the rights, property or safety of the Club, our members, or others.
6. Data Retention
We retain personal data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this Policy, including:
- for as long as you remain a registered player/member, plus a reasonable period afterwards for historical, archival and administrative purposes;
- order and transaction records, for as long as required by applicable tax, accounting and consumer protection laws;
- disciplinary records, for as long as reasonably necessary for Club governance and dispute resolution purposes; and
- Club media, which may continue to be retained and used for legitimate historical, archival and promotional purposes even after you become inactive, as described in the Constitution.
Where data is no longer needed, we will securely delete or anonymise it, subject to any legal retention requirements.
7. Club Media, Player Image and Marketing
7.1 By registering for or participating in Skillaz FC activities, you acknowledge that photographs, videos or recordings may be taken during ordinary Club activities and used by the Club for legitimate purposes, including the Site, social media, match/competition publicity, newsletters, archives, sponsorship communications and Club marketing, as described in our Terms and Conditions.
7.2 Participation in separately organised modelling, advertising or promotional activities is entirely voluntary and requires your specific agreement; you may decline without consequence.
7.3 If you wish to object to a specific use of your image, or to withdraw consent for future ordinary Club media (this cannot retroactively remove media already lawfully published), please contact us using the details in Section 12.
7.4 You may opt out of marketing communications (e.g., promotional emails about new merchandise) at any time by using the “unsubscribe” link provided or contacting us directly. This will not affect essential communications relating to your registration, membership or an active order.
8. Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies on the Site to:
- keep you logged in to your account;
- remember items in your shopping cart;
- understand how visitors use the Site (analytics); and
- support essential Site security and functionality.
You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings; however, doing so may affect the functionality of certain parts of the Site, such as checkout or account login.
9. Data Security
We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss, misuse or alteration, including encrypted password storage and the use of reputable third-party payment processors for handling card data. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
If you have reason to believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately.
10. Children’s Data
Where a player or participant is under 18, registration must be completed or approved by a parent or legal guardian, who consents to the processing of the minor’s personal data as described in this Policy on the minor’s behalf. We collect only the information reasonably necessary for safe and effective participation in Club activities.
11. Your Rights
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data;
- request deletion of your personal data, subject to our legitimate retention needs (e.g., disciplinary or financial records);
- object to or restrict certain processing, including direct marketing;
- withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent; and
- lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) if you believe your data protection rights have been violated.
